Erma Bombeck, who has been the resident humorist on “Good Morning America” since the program debuted Nov 3, 1975, will make her last regular appearance on the early morning ABC series Thursday.
Bombeck said on Friday that an increasing work load makes it necessary for her to quit the show. “It’s the best job I’ve ever had, but I’m walking away from it,” she said.
In addition to her thrice weekly newspaper columns, Bombeck also is readying a play for Broadway and writing a new book.
ABC said that while she will not be a regular on “Good Morning,” she would be welcome on the program whenever she’s in New York.
