Egyptian President Hosni Mubarak said he will visit the United States in late January or February to promote an international Mideast peace conference and seek remedies for Egypt’s economic crisis. Mubarak told reporters that the Reagan Administration wanted him to visit Washington this month, but he said he decided to delay the trip until after the U.S. elections in November. In Egypt, the semiofficial Al Ahram newspaper reported that Mubarak also delayed the trip because he wanted to give the U.S. Treasury time to complete a study of Egypt’s request to reduce interest on its debt and to allow ideas on an international peace conference to “crystallize.”
