Aquino Sounds Optimistic Note
Philippine President Corazon Aquino, wrapping up a busy nine-day visit to the United States, told an audience today at the University of California, Berkeley, that her nation’s troubles “seem endless” but that they can be overcome.
“As long as the human spirit can soar, nothing is impossible,” she said. Aquino told about 10,000 students, faculty and supporters who jammed the outdoor Greek Theater that it will take her a long time to restore political and economic balance but that in the wake of the 20-year rule of ousted President Ferdinand E. Marcos, “we can look anyone in the eye and say, ‘We are Filipinos.’ ”
