The “typical” San Diego Gas & Electric residential bill will fall by about $1.60 per month after Nov. 1 because of the low cost of natural gas and fuel oil, company officials said Tuesday.

Residential rates will fall by about 2.5% from the current average of $62.07 per month, and large industrial and commercial rates could be trimmed by as much as 8%, according to Doug Hansen, SDG&E; rate manager.

The utility expects fuel oil and natural gas costs to fall by about $44.9 million during coming months, according to Hansen.

The proposed lower rates were spurred in part by a state Public Utilities Commission order that SDG&E; refund to customers $10.5 million spent on repairs at the San Onofre Nuclear Generating Station.
