Lawmaker Sworn In for 2-3 Weeks Work
WASHINGTON — Neil Abercrombie, a Hawaii Democrat, was sworn in Tuesday for what promises to be a brief career in the U.S. House of Representatives.
Abercrombie won a special election on Saturday to finish out the term for a vacant seat in the 1st District. But he lost a primary election the same day to run for a full term in November.
House Speaker Thomas P. (Tip) O’Neill Jr. (D-Mass.) administered the oath of office to Abercrombie, enabling him to serve for the remaining two or three weeks that Congress is scheduled to be in session this year.
