ORANGE COUNTY ARTS OPENING ON RADIO, TV

The opening of the Orange County Performing Arts Center Monday night will be broadcast by Los Angeles-based KUSC-FM as well as by Orange County’s KOCE-TV.

The public radio station will carry a live broadcast of the opening-night concert featuring the Los Angeles Philharmonic, plus the pre-concert ceremonies. The three-hour program will begin at 7 p.m. and be aired nationally by other American Public Radio affiliated stations.

Hosted by Gail Eichenthal, the radio program will include taped interviews with composer William Kraft, patron Henry Segerstrom and UCLA musicologist Robert Winter. During the intermission, Eichenthal will discuss the growth of other Orange County cultural institutions.

Huntington Beach-based KOCE will have a 90-minute program, “A Night to Remember,” starting at 9:30 p.m. on Channel 50. The show also will be aired by KPBS Channel 15 in San Diego and KVCR Channel 24, San Bernardino.

KOCE’s on-air hosts Stephanie Edwards, Meredith MacRae and Jim Cooper will conduct live post-concert interviews with county cultural, corporate and political figures. Taped segments will include a rehearsal session with conductor Zubin Mehta and interviews with composer Kraft, architect Charles Lawrence and sculptor Richard Lippold.
