Kaiser Aluminum expects a smaller operating loss.

Chairman Cornell C. Maier said the company expects its aluminum division to report a sharply lower operating loss in the third quarter, compared to year-ago and second-quarter results. The division had a $36-million operating loss in the second quarter. The narrowed loss comes despite an erosion in aluminum prices, he said, attributing the improvement to lower labor and power costs, higher productivity and the effects of plant modernization programs.
