Confirmation of Rehnquist

What exactly did Senate Majority Leader Bob Dole (R-Kan.) mean when he said: “The liberals couldn’t stand having a conservative as chief justice . . .” when he refers to liberal leaders’ reactions to Rehnquist’s nomination. Does this mean that only liberals are concerned about human rights? The statement does not say much for conservatives.
Anyone who had any respect or compassion for women, minorities, or anyone for the matter, would be upset by Rehnquist’s nomination. It has nothing to do with being liberal or conservative. It has to do with being a person who has some dignity.
