Confirmation of Rehnquist

Hats off to Rep. Augustus F. Hawkins (D-Los Angeles) on his article (Editorial Pages, Sept. 16), “Rehnquist Is Ruled Out by Rights Views.”
After watching several hours of the Rehnquist hearings, as well as reading what I can get my hands on, I cannot understand why this man was even being considered for the position of chief justice, other than being one of our President’s allies.
Hawkins hit the nail right on the head when he said Rehnquist best qualifies to be president of South Africa.
