San Francisco hotel workers were talking strike again because contract talks are at a stalemate. “Negotiations have broken off. There is nothing planned,” said Tim Reagan of Hotel Employees and Restaurant Employees Union Local 2. What he called “a miserable 13-hour negotiating session” ended with no progress toward a new agreement for about 850 workers at the Hyatt on Union Square and Hyatt Regency at Embarcadero Center. The previous contract, which would have expired Aug. 14, has been extended daily. Reagan said the two hotels could be struck by the end of the week. In addition to the Hyatts, 27 other hotels have not resolved their differences with Local 2. Reagan said no decision has been made to extend the strike threat to any other hotels, which employ about 2,000 union members.
