Quarterback Doug Flutie, who was paid $3 million for playing one season with the New Jersey Generals of the United States Football League, has reached a verbal agreement with owner Donald Trump to play in the National Football League.

Flutie, who played in the spring of 1985, has already collected $2 million. He reportedly will receive an additional $1 million as part of the settlement with Trump. He signed a six-year, $8-million personal-services contract with Trump after his last season at Boston College.

The Rams, who own Flutie’s NFL rights, have given him permission to talk with other teams.
