AND NOW HERE’S THE NEWS: You’ve probably heard by now that Sam Moore (of Sam & Dave) and Lou Reed have teamed up on a new version of “Soul Man” for the sound track of the upcoming New World comedy of the same name. But Sam Moore won’t be the only legendary pop figure on the album, due out from A&M; Records next month. Sly Stone also appears on a pair of tracks, dueting with the Motels’ Martha Davis on “Love and Affection” and offering up a new tune of his own, “Eek-Ah-Boo-Static Automatic.” . . . Sly also surfaces on the new Jesse Johnson album, “Shockadelia.” Sly and Johnson perform a duet called “Crazay” while Johnson delivers such new songs as “Change Your Mind,” “A Better Way” and “Black in America.” . . . Ratt’s new album, due out this week, is called “Dancin’ Undercover,” and features such new songs as “Slip of the Lip,” “Enough is Enough” and “Seventh Avenue,” as well as a new single, “Body Talk,” which will be featured later this year in the new Eddie Murphy film, “Golden Child.” . . . Meanwhile, football fans should recognize those background vocals in Huey Lewis’ new single, “Hip to be Square.” The vocal assistance comes from San Francisco 49ers Joe Montana and Dwight Clark. . . . And when the Everly Brothers get their star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame this Thursday at 12:30 p.m., the presentation will be made by one of Don and Phil’s longtime fans--Tom Petty.
