Bloodhounds aiding the search near Wright City, Mo., for a former mental patient suspected in three killings in three states were called off after heavy rain washed away the scent. Authorities believe that Michael W. Jackson, 41, is wounded or dead after a shoot-out with police Monday. One of his shoes was flown to Missouri from Indianapolis, where he lived, to give the dogs his scent. Meanwhile, investigators lifted fingerprints at a farmhouse in Calwood, 35 miles west of Wright City, to determine whether Jackson was the prowler who slipped into the home and used a first-aid kit to treat a wound.
