Two Downtown Structures : BOMA Honors Four Office Building Owners
Owners of four Los Angeles office buildings have been presented with 1986 Building-of-the-Year awards from the Building Owners & Managers Assn. of Greater Los Angeles.
Buildings include Crocker Center and the 818 West 7th Street building in downtown Los Angeles, Murdock Plaza in Westwood and Commerce Business Park in City of Commerce.

Crocker Center, a winner in the Building-of-the-Year awards given by the Building Owners & Managers Assn. of Greater Los Angeles, was built by H. C. Beck in a joint venture with Turner Construction. The Times incorrectly identified the builder in a story last Sunday.
Crocker Center won in the over-500,000-square-feet category.
Murdock Plaza was singled out in the under-500,000-square-feet category.
Historical Award
The 818 West 7th Street Building captured the historical building award.
And Commerce Business Park was presented with the Pueblo Award, based on community services and special amenities.
Crocker Center is the $400-million, Maguire Thomas Partners project, designed by Skidmore, Owings & Merrill and built by C. L. Peck in 1983.
Murdock Plaza is the 17-story office tower, designed by Arnold C. Savraan AIA with Langdon, Wilson & Mumper Architects and built by C. L. Peck at Wilshire and Westwood boulevards in 1981.
Building Redesigned
The structure now known as 818 West 7th Street but formerly called the Barker Bros. building and built in 1925 was redesigned by the Feola/Deenihan Partnership and renovated by Robert E. McKee Construction.
And Commerce Business Park, a project of Trammell Crow Co., was started in 1972 and today has more than 1 million square feet of commercial space in addition to 8 million square feet of industrial and research-and-development facilities. The park also has a medical clinic, athletic facilities, day-care center and heliport.
The awards program was developed by the association to showcase outstanding examples of commercial office buildings and their impact on the community. The awards were based upon more than physical appearance. Consideration was given to engineering efficiency, design, renovation, management techniques and operating methods.
The association also presented Member-of-the-Year awards to David V. Adams, president of Morgan Adams Inc., and Jack Lawson of Schindler Elevator Co. These awards recognize members who contribute a great deal of time and energy to the organization.
Commercial real estate broker John C. Cushman III was guest speaker at the ceremony, held during a luncheon on the Queen Mary. Cushman reviewed the Los Angeles area office market.
