Asian Games Roundup : Chinese Marksman Wins 4th Gold

Marksman Qiu Bo became the third Chinese athlete to win four gold medals in the 10th Asian Games, helping China retain its overall medal lead, while Japan collected eight golds Saturday.

The Japanese dominated the day’s 17-event competition by winning two golds each in shooting, cycling and bowling, and one apiece in wrestling and weightlifting. They have a total of 34 golds, 38 silvers and 36 bronzes.

But China, with three golds in shooting and one in cycling, maintained its lead with 57 golds, 42 silvers and 25 bronzes as the 16-day Games reached the halfway point. South Korea was in third place with 23 golds, 24 silvers and 29 bronzes.

Qiu added victories in the individual and team competition in small-bore standard rifle to two earlier first places.

Fellow shooter Xu Haifeng and gymnast Li Ning have also won four golds, as has Japanese freestyle swimmer Katsunori Fujiwara.
