Dr. Albert Sabin, 80, who developed the oral polio vaccine, was hospitalized after suffering chest pains while on a flight Sunday from Rome to Sicily, doctors said today.

Doctors said that Sabin was suffering from spasmodic angina, an acute heart pain that often precedes a heart attack, and that he was in stable condition, having improved overnight.
