Asian Games Roundup : South Korea’s Archers Better 2 World Records, Tie Another

South Korean archer Kim Mi-ja bettered the world record of 353 for a single round at 30 meters in the Asian Games Sunday with a score of 354, and her teammate Kim Jin-ho tied the world mark of 338 at 60 meters.

The South Korean women’s team’s total for one round at each distance--70, 60, 50 and 30 meters--also bettered the world mark of 3,925 by 10 points.

South Korea also won two golds in cycling road races and one gold each in Greco-Roman wrestling, handball and weightlifting. Japan, meanwhile, won three golds in wrestling and one in equestrian competition, taking the team jumping event, while Thailand won its first two golds in pistol shooting.

China, still holding a big lead in the medals standings, won only one gold, in skeet shooting.

With seven days left in the 16-day Asiad, China had 58 golds, 47 silvers and 26 bronzes. Japan had 38 golds, 40 silvers and 38 bronzes, and South Korea had a 28 golds, 25 silvers and 37 bronzes.

Thailand’s golds on the shooting range--with record-breaking scores--were its first in Games shooting competition in 12 years.
