Gov. George Deukmejian signed legislation Monday that will allow work to continue on four historical buildings undergoing restoration at Old Town State Park.

Without the $377,000 appropriation, in a measure by Assemblywoman Lucy Killea (D-San Diego), construction work on the Rose-Robinson Building, the Franklin-Colorado House, the Alvarado family property and the Alvarado Lucia House might have been halted until the 1987 state budget is adopted next summer, state parks officials said.

In 1982 and 1983, the Legislature appropriated $1.8 million for restoration work on the buildings, but historical research completed after funding was approved caused estimates of the cost to rise.

Killea’s measure calls for the additional cost to be paid with money left over from park bonds approved by voters in 1974.
