Iran claimed that its forces killed 100 Iraqi troops and wounded many more in an overnight attack on the central front of the Persian Gulf War. The official news agency IRNA said the Iranian forces overran two bases inside Iraqi territory in the Changule area, 20 miles southeast of the Iranian border town of Mehran. Iranian troops retook Mehran, 105 miles southeast of Baghdad, in July after it had been held by Iraq for six weeks. Iran also reported seizing several nearby hills inside Iraq earlier this month.
