College Roundup : Grelsson’s 4 Goals Lead UCI

Karen Grelsson scored a school-record four goals to lead the UC Irvine women’s soccer team to a 13-0 victory over the University of Redlands.

Playing at Redlands, UCI (5-1) got three goals each from Holly Fong and Alicia Braverman. Goalie Valerie Dehn recorded her fourth shutout.

In other women’s soccer action:

Westmont 2, Chapman 1--Susie Brown scored for the Panthers (3-4-1).

In men’s soccer:

Chapman 1, Navy 0--Fabrizio Soto scored the game’s only goal off a rebound in the nonconference game at Annapolis, Md. Chapman is 6-4-1, Navy drops to 3-5-1.

Irvine 1, UC San Diego 0--Spencer Johnston scored 15 minutes into the game off an assist from Keith Golden for UCI (3-7) at San Diego. Goalie Mike Gartland got the shutout. The victory broke a five-game Irvine losing streak.

Christ College Irvine 3, Pacific Christian 2--Steve Matoon scored the winning goal with seven minutes remaining for Christ College. Steve Borst had tied the score at 2-2 earlier in the half.
