New York artist Susan Rothenberg made a name for herself by doing big, bold paintings of horses. She continues to explore ideas of motion in a series of five new prints that take the concept of movement onto the astral plane.

A lithograph titled “Red Days” depicts a vibrant red figure swirling through a white field charged with fiery flecks of energy. “Tilting,” a woodcut litho done in shades of green, yellow and black, explodes with the giddy, high-speed motion of a carnival ride, as does a companion piece called “Spinning.” In “Boneman,” a black-and-beige mezzotint, we find a crouching shaman who seems to have harnessed a vibrating force field with two long, narrow sticks. It’s a magically alive image with a power exceeding the small sheet of paper that contains it. (Gemini G.E.L., 8365 Melrose Ave., to Oct. 15.)
