Oregon’s Miller May Play Against USC

Oregon’s Chris Miller, the All-Pacific 10 quarterback last year, may be able to play against USC Saturday night at the Coliseum.

Miller bruised a nerve in his right elbow in his team’s 48-14 loss to Nebraska last Saturday and was previously regarded as doubtful. But Oregon Coach Rich Brooks said that the quarterback threw in practice Thursday and will be on the traveling squad.

“It looks like he might be able to play. We’ll have to see how the nerve responds tomorrow,” Brooks said, “but I probably won’t make a decision until game time as to who will start.”

If Miller can’t start, he’ll be replaced by redshirt freshman Pete Nelson.

“Chris is obviously not 100% and not throwing with his usual velocity,” Brooks said. “He got hit on the ulnar nerve, like the crazy bone. There’s still some tingling and some numbness and a loss of strength in his hand.”
