All we wanted to do was straighten out the facts on that re-shoot of the ending to “Little Shop of Horrors,” the musical spoof about a carnivorous flower named Audrey Jr. due from Geffen Film/Warner Bros. in December. But Warner Bros. publicity told us that the studio has a firm policy of “hanging up” on Outtakes . . . so they politely hung up.
Fortunately, David Geffen isn’t so timid. He confirmed that director Frank Oz has completed a new ending in London--on a brand-new set. It’s to accommodate a possible sequel, Geffen said, not--as a birdie chirped to us--because preview audiences responded negatively to the original ending, which had the flower devouring virtually the entire cast. (Rick Moranis stars as a heartsick flower shop assistant, with co-star Ellen Greene reprising her stage role as the object of his unrequited affection.)
“The reaction at our sneaks was so gigantic, we re-shot the ending so Rick doesn’t die,” Geffen told us. A sequel is now at the “deal-making” stage.
