MEXICO CITY —
An exploratory oil well that caught fire and has raged out of control for 15 days will be extinguished by Oct. 20, officials of Petroleos Mexicanos said Saturday.
The blaze has been burning off 25,000 barrels of oil per day, spurting flames 130 feet into the air. The fire began Sept. 20 when workers tried to cap the well near the town of Frontera, about 415 miles southeast of Mexico City.
