More Tours for the Senior Crowd

Several items of interest have accumulated for the mature traveler. The first is another Southern California tour operator specializing in trips for the senior crowd. Richard Adams Tours, in Glendora, packages a series of tours each year to Europe and Asia. One of interest to male readers will be the Rotary International convention, which takes place in Munich, Germany in June, 1987.

Dick Adams, a Rotarian, will be the tour escort for a seven-day package, which begins June 5 and includes round-trip air fare between Los Angeles and Munich, first-class hotel for six nights, daily breakfast, excursions to Salzburg and the Bavarian Alps, plus transfers and sightseeing. Wooing Older Traveler

Joining the rapidly growing list of areas that are wooing the mature traveler is Lancaster County, home of Pennsylvania Dutch country where some 14,000 members of the Amish religious community reside. Travelers planning a trip east next summer will be rewarded if they elect to visit this area, which boasts museums, home cooking and beautiful scenery.

Lancaster County has prepared a Senior Citizen Discount Directory that is being distributed along with a map packed with color illustrations and information, plus a calendar of events. A handy little booklet entitled “Tips for Travelers” has been published by the American Hotel and Motel Assn. and is not only valuable to the mature traveler, but to anyone who is planning a trip. The contents of the 25-page pamphlet are quite basic and include chapters on how to select a hotel, car rentals, the travel agent, packing, what to expect from your hotel and other useful information. What to Do With Fido?

What to do about your dog when you want to travel can be a problem for older citizens who have become attached to their pets. There are those who may not want to travel at all rather than leave a beloved dog with a stranger or feel they cannot take the animal along.

Gaines Dog Food offers two booklets that can help ensure a trouble-free vacation for both family and pet. “Touring with Towser” is a directory of hotels and motels in the United States that welcome canine guests. Tips on feeding the dog before a trip, plus other special notes are included.

The second booklet is “Where to Buy, Board or Train a Dog,” with a listing of kennels, the services they offer and list of breed clubs you can contact for information. The Woodstock Inn & Resort in Vermont claims that you’re never too old to learn how to ski, so they’re offering a series of “Seniors on Snow” cross-country ski programs for persons over age 50. The ski package includes three nights deluxe hotel accommodations, breakfast and dinner daily, expert instruction, use of equipment, skiing movies, welcome party and drink, and guided ski tours.

Although the four-day schedule is filled with activity, there is free time available for practice or skiing, or engaging in other resort activities. Sessions are scheduled for January and March, 1987, and cost $305 per person on weekends, or $290 per person during the week.
