Gerber repurchased its shares from Quaker Oats.

The 985,000 common shares held by Quaker represented a 4.8% stake in Gerber Products. The purchase price was at Quaker’s cost, which approximated the market price at the date Quaker offered the stock to Fremont, Mich.-based Gerber. Quaker bought the shares at $48.12 1/2 each in April, for a total of $47.4 million, but did not reveal the purchase until early September. Quaker spokesman Ron Battrell said the company decided to sell the stock back to Gerber because of Quaker’s merger with Anderson, Clayton & Co.
