Aid to Growers

In the last days of the session Gov. George Deukmejian signed a bill that provides $6.2 million to reimburse watermelon growers, brokers and grocers who suffered economic losses due to contamination of the watermelons by toxic pesticides last year.

Farm workers who lost wages for the same reason were excluded from this bill.

Most farm workers do not vote, so why do they need to eat?
