Russell Photo

Share

Most of us have experienced minor chagrin at seeing a snapshot of ourselves (usually with a group where everyone else looks terrific) in which our eyes are half-closed or our faces have momentarily folded into an idiotic expression. In the other five or six group snapshots we look fine but someone else is caught in mid-blink.

A political figure is photographed with far greater regularity than the rest of us. For an article featuring the Los Angeles City Council president, The Times must surely have a great many photographs to choose from.

I am therefore deeply dismayed by the implications of the particularly insulting Sept. 25 picture of Pat Russell. It cannot be allowed to pass without protest.
