2 ‘HORROR NIGHTS’ AT UNIVERSAL STUDIOS PLANNED

How many true fright freaks are there roaming the Southland, people who will go to almost any extreme to have the starch scared out of their shirts on Halloween?

Universal Studios Tour is gambling there may be as many as 15,000 frightniks ready to put down $14.95 for the pleasure of spending one of two “Horror Nights” with the likes of Dracula, the Mummy, the Wolf Man, the Phantom of the Opera, Norman Bates’ dead mom and an assortment of other creatures from Universal Pictures’ scary past.

More than 70 costumed characters will be roaming the dark back lot and terrorizing passengers aboard the tour trams the nights of Oct. 31 and Nov. 1. It’s the first time the studio has ever allowed the tour to operate at night.

A tour spokesman said the 7 p.m.-midnight specials will be limited to 7,500 and advised parents not to bring young children.

“We’re getting set up to scare the devil out of people,” he said.
