The World : Iranians Attack Embassy

Share

More than 100 Iranians stormed the West German Embassy compound in Tehran to protest the closing of Iran’s exhibit at the Frankfurt Book Fair but were driven out with tear gas, West German officials said in Bonn. The attackers, carrying iron bars and saws, shouted, “Revenge for Frankfurt!” as they scaled the compound fence, a Foreign Ministry spokesman said. They tried to force entry to the embassy building but retreated after failing to get in, he said. Iran’s official news agency said the assault was carried out by 300 students from Tehran University belonging to the extremist Shia Muslim organization Hezbollah, or Party of God.
