Palestine Liberation Organization Chairman Yasser Arafat announced that he has sent guerrillas to southern Lebanon to defend Palestinian refugee camps against Shia Muslim militias and Israeli forces. Arafat said that an unspecified number of commandos have been sent to Lebanon “with orders to defend the camps until death.” At a meeting of Palestinians in Kuwait, Arafat charged that Amal, the largest Shia Muslim militia in Lebanon, is cooperating with Israeli forces in a “new massacre” of Palestinians.
