GENEVA — A total of 126 Jews left the Soviet Union for new homes abroad in September, the highest monthly figure this year, the Intergovernmental Committee for Migration reported Friday.
Twenty of the emigres went to Israel and the rest to Italy pending resettlement in other countries, the committee said. This brought the Soviet Jewish migrant total for the first nine months of the year to 667, according to the committee’s statistics.
Jewish emigration from the Soviet Union has dropped sharply in recent years from a peak of 51,330 in 1979.
