A bomb, possibly planted by terrorists to protest Barcelona’s bid for the 1992 Olympics, exploded outside a bank in the city’s downtown area, causing extensive damage but no injuries, police said.
No group immediately claimed responsibility for the bombing, but police said it might have been the work of Terra Lliure, an armed nationalist group that recently threatened to step up bomb attacks to foil Barcelona’s Olympic bid.
