Too Much Hot Air

Share

Election day is only about three weeks away, and some of the campaigns in Orange County are starting to heat up. We wish there was less hot air.

For example, Rep. Robert K. Dornan (R-Garden Grove) last Wednesday took 38 minutes on the floor of Congress to deliver a rambling speech to again defend his military record. That record really is no issue, or shouldn’t be one, in the 38th Congressional District race between him and Assemblyman Richard Robinson (D-Garden Grove).

And Mayor Jim Beam of Orange, in a telephone poll taken in his campaign against Anaheim Mayor Donald R. Roth for a seat on the county Board of Supervisors, asked voters what their reaction would be if Roth were accused of an illegal act. Beam defended the hypothetical “what if” question, saying his pollster never accused Roth of anything.

There are enough valid issues that need exploring. Why waste time on non-issues?
