War Toys

Michelle Phillips (Letters, Oct. 4), deplores children playing with war toys at a birthday party. Is she aware of war toys offered in catalogues, complete with invasion maps? Also for “dreams of action, dreams of adventure,” there are camouflage clothing and bedding.

It was an inglorious sight to me the day I saw a tot at a church preschool clad in camouflage pants.

How do parents explain kill, kill, to their children as they take them to Sunday school where they are taught to love their neighbor?
