Reba McEntire was chosen as entertainer of the year and top female vocalist at the 20th annual Country Music Assn. awards show in Nashville, Tenn. McEntire became the first singer to win No. 1 female vocalist three straight years since Tammy Wynette did so in the late 1960s. George Strait was named top male vocalist for the second consecutive year. Dan Seals won single of the year for his song “Bop” and shared top vocal duo honors with Marie Osmond. The Judds won the award for best vocal group for the second year in a row. Ronnie Milsap’s “Lost in the Fifties Tonight” won album of the year.
