Fog Disrupts England’s Highway, Air Travel
Fog descended on much of England on Monday, disrupting road travel and causing delays, diversions and cancellations of many flights in and out of London’s Heathrow Airport.
Police said they imposed speed restrictions on limited-access highways in many places. Visibility on the main runways at Heathrow was cut to less than 200 yards.
An airport spokesman said long-distance arrivals--from the United States, the Far East, Africa and Australia--were diverted to other British and European airports. Domestic and European flights were also badly disrupted.
