Cheryl Campbell-Richardson, 25, of Whittier has qualified for the Race Across America, an endurance bicycle ride to be held in June, 1987, with a field of 20 men and seven women cyclists. A former all-American basketball player at California State University, Fullerton, she began cycling three years ago as rehabilitation for numerous athletic injuries.

James Osborne of the physical therapy department at Pacific Hospital of Long Beach has earned a Ph.D in clinical psychology at age 67. “I had only a ninth-grade education at age 50,” he said, but after several years of adult education he completed high school and then pursued college degrees.

Melanie Jane Andrews, drama teacher at Compton High School for four years, has been selected teacher of the year from among 35 schools in the Compton Unified School District. She has organized award-wining theatrical productions, coached entries in national drama student competition, is beginning a video instruction program and also is writing a book on how to set up a school performing arts program. She is a 1966 graduate of Centennial High School in Compton, and earned a bachelor’s degree in speech and English at California State University, Los Angeles, and a master’s degree in education at USC.

Letters of commendation have been presented to two administrators of the business division at Cerritos College, dean Mary Pribble and Hugh Wilkoff, for their efforts in securing American Bar Assn. certification of the college paralegal program.

Lakewood resident Janet K. Donato has been appointed manager of Bank of America’s La Palma branch. The 20-year bank employee began as a teller at the Lakewood Plaza branch in Long Beach, and for the past two years has been assistant vice president and assistant manager of the East Anaheim branch.

Two Long Beach residents have joined the medical staff of the Kaiser Permanente Medical Center in Anaheim. They are Vicki Crowe, a family practice physician, and Judith Ann Koperski, a dermatologist.
