The World : Last Ousted Soviets Leave

The last of the 25 Soviet diplomats ordered out of the United States as alleged spies have left the country, the State Department announced. Department spokesman Pete Martinez said Moscow completed compliance with last month’s order that it withdraw 25 of its diplomats assigned to the Soviet Mission to the United Nations. The diplomats left on flights that will take them home by way of Western Europe. A U.S. official, speaking on condition of anonymity, said that among the final five to depart were Valery Savchenko, said to be the KGB station chief at the mission, and Vladislav Skvortsov, believed to be the New York chief of the GRU (Soviet military intelligence).
