Gunmen burst into a farmhouse in Northern Ireland and killed a Roman Catholic man and his 76-year-old mother, police said. An extremist Protestant group, the outlawed Ulster Freedom Fighters, claimed responsibility and said the slain man, Terry Mullan, 31, was an intelligence officer for the outlawed Irish Republican Army. However, the IRA, which is fighting to drive the British out of Ulster and unite the province with the Irish Republic, denied that Mullan was a member. The attack took place near the village of Ballynahinch, 20 miles south of Belfast.
