Eastman Kodak Company will offer $150,000 in bonus money to be divided equally between any man or woman who can win both the 1986 New York and 1987 Los Angeles Marathons.
The “Kodak Coast-to-Coast Challenge” represents a major increase over bonus money put up by the L.A. Marathon organizers last year, a prize that remained unclaimed when Italy’s Orlando Pizzolato and Norway’s Grete Waitz declined to run in the inaugural Los Angeles race last March.
To qualify for the prize, runners must enter the March 1, 1987 Los Angeles Marathon by Dec. 1, 1986. The New York Marathon will be held Nov. 2.
