AND NOW HERE’S THE NEWS: While Heart is back in the studio with producer Ron Nevison, working on a follow-up to last year’s wildly successful “Heart” album, Ann Wilson took time to do a solo track, “The Best Man in the World,” for the sound track to the upcoming Eddie Murphy film, “The Golden Child.” . . . And speaking of sound tracks: Mark Knopfler’s “Going Home,” which was the theme of Bill Forsyth’s critical-fave film “Local Hero,” has been adopted as the official theme for the Crusader Challenge, Britain’s entry in the 1987 America’s Cup yacht race. . . . The late Rev. Martin Luther King Jr. gets a co-writing credit on the new OMD song, “Southern,” which features excerpts from several King speeches. . . . How’s this for good timing? Warren Zevon’s old hit, “Werewolves of London,” appears in the new Martin Scorsese film “The Color of Money,” just as Elektra Records is preparing to release “A Quite Normal Life,” a collection of Zevon’s greatest hits. . . . Every movie director, sooner or later, seems to be turning to music video, either for a challenge or just a bit of freedom from the feature-film grind. The latest convert is veteran documentary film maker D.A. Pennebaker (“Don’t Look Back”), who’s at the helm of a new video by popster Marti Jones. The clip, “Chance of a Lifetime,” is from Jones’ “Match Game” album. . . . And songstress Jennifer Warnes has recorded “Jenny Sings Lenny,” a whole album full of (not Leonard Bernstein but) Leonard Cohen songs. The record will be out on Canadian-based Attic Records later this year.
