Public Reception Slated for Winner of Architecture Prize

The winner in a search for the most innovative architecture of the future will be announced next Saturday at a public reception from 7 to 11 p.m. in Kinsey Auditorium at the California Museum of Science and Industry, 600 State Drive, Exposition Park.

More than 500 entries from 27 different countries including Eastern Block nations were received for the competition, sponsored by the Los Angeles chapter, American Institute of Architects.

The prize is $10,000 and a trophy designed by sculptor DeMars of Los Angeles.

The ceremony will be attended by the jury, which included Ray Bradbury of the U. S. A., author and futurist; Arthur Erickson of Canada, 1986 recipient of the institute’s Gold Medal award and 1984 Canadian and French Gold Medal award; Richard Meier of the U. S. A., recipient of the 1984 Pritzker Prize; Richard Rodgers of Great Britain, recipient of the 1985 Gold Medal of Britain, and Paolo Soleri of the U. S. A., visionary and creator of Arcosanti. Soleri’s latest work on “Life in Space” will be on exhibit during the ceremony.

Admission, including refreshments, is $7.50 for students with identification and $15 for others. Reservation information may be obtained from the institute’s office at 8687 Melrose Ave.
