L. A. Beautiful Bestows Annual Business Awards : Metropolitan Water District, Century City Inc. Get Special Recognition

The Metropolitan Water District has received a Special Recognition Award for development and management of a water-conserving garden from Los Angeles Beautiful at the group’s annual Business and Industry Awards luncheon at the Sheraton Grande Hotel.

Ray Ziegler, president of Los Angeles Beautiful, said, “In a region like ours with limited water resources, the MWD demonstrates that it is possible by careful plant selection and management to have a beautiful landscape that requires very little water.”

A Special Recognition Award was also given to Century City Inc. for its beautification through landscaping and prohibition of billboards along the railroad right-of-way on Little Santa Monica Boulevard.

It was the first time that the Metropolitan Water District has received a Los Angeles Beautiful award. It was also a first time for Santa Anita Park and the J. Paul Getty Museum.

Security Pacific Plaza received a 10-year Maintenance Award.

The Business & Industry Award, given each year by Los Angeles Beautiful for facilities that enhance the environment and beauty of the community, drew about 200 nominations. The city of Los Angeles was among the award recipients. The Harbor Department’s Administration Building in San Pedro, the LAX Expansion project and the Tom Bradley International Terminal were recognized for their beautifully landscaped facilities.
