The State Department said it has rejected a request from new Israeli Prime Minister Yitzhak Shamir that the Administration shut down offices of the Palestine Liberation Organization in the United States. According to reports from Israel, Shamir told Secretary of State George P. Shultz that the PLO was linked to the grenade attack on Israeli soldiers in Jerusalem last week. A spokesman for Shultz said PLO information offices in the United States “are staffed by U.S. citizens and by legal foreign residents” and that there is no justification for shutting them down.
