It has been less than a month...

It has been less than a month since the Small World Guild of Childrens Hospital of Orange County joined two other CHOC Guilds, Cinderella and Jack and Jill, in a fund-raiser at the Registry Hotel.

Thursday, it was the same hotel, but an “independent” fund-raiser by the ambitious Irvine group which netted almost $4,000 for CHOC.

“Collections ‘87,” chaired by Sue Crawford, attracted 200 guests and featured fall and winter fashions coordinated by Florence Smales of Fullerton.

Additional funds were garnered with a “Two-On-The-Town” drawing that highlighted dinners for two at 21 restaurants in Orange County.

Guests mingled outdoors on the sunny, warm patio during the social hour before going into the ballroom for lunch and to hear Nancy Willbanks, president of the Small Word Guild, open the program.

“Normally when we see each other it’s on the way to soccer practice or car-pooling,” said Milbanks to the members.

“You all look so gorgeous. I wish we could capture looking this way, but I know that by 3 o’clock, we’ll all be back to normal.”

Smales, aware of the clock-watching mothers, wasted no time in presenting the collection of fall/winter fashions and furs she collected from shops in Irvine, Tustin, Newport Beach, Corona del Mar and Laguna Beach

Names of the top prize winners, Sharon Beisner (a weekend getaway at the Registry Hotel in Scottsdale, Ariz.) and Susanna Braun (a $500 shopping spree at South Coast Plaza) were barely announced before the ballroom emptied.

Attending the luncheon was Helen Wardener, CHOC Guilds coordinator. In conversation, Wardener, liaison between the hospital and the guilds, spoke of the plans just announced for a new CHOC structure.

“Right now they are split between the original Childrens Hospital and the CHOC Tower,” said Wardener, “basically, we will have them (the children) all under one roof.”
