A Westminster man who had disappeared Thursday while hiking in Yosemite National Park was found injured but alive Tuesday. He told rescue teams that he had fallen about 50 feet.

Park spokeswoman Lisa Dapprich said that Michael Kalantarian, 30, was found in a forested area on the lower west face of Mt. Clark about 1:45 p.m. Tuesday. Searchers said he appeared to have sustained a broken ankle and two broken wrists and to be suffering from frostbite.

The searchers stabilized the injured hiker and began carrying him out Tuesday afternoon, Dapprich said. She added that Kalantarian was to be flown to the Yosemite Valley medical clinic for treatment.

Kalantarian, who had worked all summer at Yosemite Park, began a 15-mile hike last Tuesday from Mono Meadow on Glacier Point Road to Mt. Clark at the 11,500-foot elevation.

Dapprich said Kalantarian, a well-equipped, experienced hiker, was due to return to work on Thursday but wasn’t reported missing until Saturday. The search began Sunday morning, she said.
