Improved efficiency and lower costs and a lower effective tax rate contributed to third-quarter profit of the health-care company, New York-based Colgate Palmolive, despite its costly introduction of two products in the United States, the company said. The firm posted higher profits, despite the national introduction in the United States of Palmolive Automatic dishwashing detergent and Colgate tartar-control toothpaste, as well as continued support for the recently introduced Palmolive Lemon Lime dishwashing liquid.
