Dense-Pac Microsystems Inc. reported a net loss of $30,170 for its fiscal 1987 second quarter ended Aug. 31, compared to net income of $8,693 for the same period a year earlier.

The Garden Grove maker of computer memory devices attributed the loss to increased sales and marketing expenses and expenses incurred in the opening of the company’s Puerto Rican manufacturing facility.

Second-quarter sales totaled $1.3 million, a 20% increase from sales of $1.1 million for the comparable period a year ago.

Leap in Second-Quarter Orders

Orders in the first quarter were weak, the company said, but second-quarter orders were up 250% from the comparable period last year.

Larry Taylor, Dense-Pac’s chairman and chief executive, said he expects the company to be profitable for its fiscal third and fourth quarters and for the year.

Dense-Pac completed its initial public offering in January.
