Israel is providing laser gunsights for China’s most advanced tanks, the T-69, although the two countries have no official relations, the Jerusalem Post said Friday.

In a dispatch from its correspondent in Britain, the newspaper quoted “London sources” as saying other defense links between the two countries were also increasing.

The Israeli press is not usually allowed to report from Israel on arms exports, and the Defense Ministry never comments on reported military sales.

The director general of the Israeli prime minister’s office held secret talks with Chinese officials in Paris in September, but the Communist state has shown no sign of willingness to make official the blossoming relationship, Israeli sources said.

The respected London-based military periodical Jane’s Defense Weekly has long reported large-scale secret military trade between Israel and China.
